The love affair between Chandler and Monica remains a highlight of the later seasons of "Friends" for many fans, which was in no small part due to their actors’ chemistry together.
Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox built that chemistry for 10 years. It's no wonder Perry and Cox, much like their other castmates, became close friends in real life.
Writer-producer Scott Silveri told Vulture that the Season 2 episode, "The One Where Ross Finds Out," had intrigued the staff about putting the two together.
Silveri said, "There was a really fun dynamic between the two of them." When Chandler and Monica got together, the actors’ chemistry ensured the relationship would become ongoing.
The two remained close after the show and even had a few on-camera reunions over the years, such as Perry’s guest-star role in Cox’s show "Cougar Town."
Cox remained supportive of Perry. When the topic of substance abuse arose during "Friends: The Reunion," Cox said, "He’s just struggled for a while. I think he’s doing great now."
After Perry’s tragic death, Cox joined her fellow "Friends" castmates and issued a statement expressing sorrow, sharing, "We were more than just castmates. We are a family."
