Jason Worley Received Help From A Popular YouTuber After The Murder Of His Children
In the early morning hours of November 17, 2016, authorities in Darlington, Indiana, received a disturbing call from 30-year-old Brandi Worley – who claimed she killed both of her children and then stabbed herself. As reported by Journal & Courier, the story she told the 911 operator was inconceivable. However, Worley eventually handed the phone to her mother, who confirmed that 7-year-old Tyler and 3-year-old Charlee were dead.
The prior day, Brandi's husband Jason had filed for divorce. As she later admitted, Brandi was distraught about the divorce and subsequently concocted a plan to kill both of her children and then take her own life. As reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brandi told Jason she needed to go to the store to purchase pipe cleaners for an art project Tyler was working on for school. However, she never purchased the pipe cleaners. Instead, she bought a knife — which she brought home and hid in Tyler's bedroom.
That night, Jason slept in the basement. Although Charlee and Tyler went to bed in their own rooms, Brandi woke Tyler up in the middle of the night and told him they were going to have a "sleepover" in his sister's room. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brandi stabbed Tyler to death in Charlee's room while she was still asleep. She then stabbed her daughter to death before stabbing herself multiple times.
After both of her children were dead, Brandi called her mother and told her what she had done. She then called 911.
Jason Worley was asleep when his wife killed their children
Journal & Courier reports Jason Worley did not realize anything was wrong until he heard his mother-in-law screaming. When he went upstairs, he found Brandi's mother screaming and crying inconsolably while his wife sat stoically on the couch. When questioned about what happened, Brandi told her husband, "Now you can't take my children from me."
Although she stabbed herself multiple times, Brandi's wounds were not fatal. After being treated for her wounds, she was arrested and charged with two counts of felony murder. As reported by Journal & Courier, Brandi initially pleaded not guilty and planned to claim she was legally insane. However, she eventually changed her plea to not guilty and was subsequently sentenced to 120 years in prison. During the sentencing hearing, Judge Harry Siamas said, "Sometimes there's no explanation. Darkness is in this world. And it penetrates minds and our hearts." Brandi remains incarcerated at the Indiana Women's Prison in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In the midst of his devastating loss and his quest to obtain financial assistance for his ongoing expenses, Jason contacted YouTuber Philip DeFranco via Reddit. According to The Netline, Jason told Philip his children loved listening to his show. He then told the YouTuber both children were brutally murdered at the hands of their mother.
YouTuber Philip DeFranco helped Jason Worley raise money for his children's funeral
As reported by Journal Review, Jason Worley also told Philip DeFranco about a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign, which was started by his employer, Brian Bewley. According to the GoFundMe page, Bewley started the crowdfunding campaign as numerous people had approached him and Worley asking what they could do to help. In addition to financial assistance, Bewley asked for prayers for Worley and everyone else touched by the children's devastating deaths.
DeFranco, who has nearly five million subscribers on his YouTube channel, shared Worley's story and encouraged his viewers to donate to Worley's GoFundMe account. In addition to bringing international attention to the devastating murders, Bewley encouraged his viewers to donate tens of thousands of dollars to Worley's crowdfunding campaign and to pray for the family. Within hours, donations to the fund doubled (per Journal Review).
To date, Worley's GoFundMe account has raised $56,045, and the account is no longer accepting new donations. Although the donations cannot ease his grief over the loss of his children, they did help Worley cover the funeral expenses and some of the other bills associated with his loss.
