The Only Animal Hagrid From Harry Potter Was Not A Fan Of
Rubeus Hagrid, the famed Hogwarts groundskeeper who introduced a young Harry Potter to the famed university of wizardry arts, is known for many things — his friendliness, jovial nature, noble character, and outstanding love for animals and the natural world. In fact, Hagrid is known to be so fond of animals that he even got Dumbledore the three-headed monster dog (a reference to the Greek Cerberus, the three-headed devil dog), which had the ironic name of Fluffy. He also gifted Harry the beloved snowy owl, Hedwig, as a birthday present, the first one Harry ever received.
Hagrid also had an exhaustive list of other animals, such as Aragog, an Acromantula (a giant spider in the Harry Potter universe) that bred with Mosag, another one of Hagrid's spider pets, whose offspring live in the Forbidden Forest. Aragog and Hagrid have such a strong bond that Aragog doesn't allow any of his children to feast upon Hagrid's body, which is probably a good connection to make with such a terrifying creature (via CBR).
He taught a course on magical creatures
Rubeus Hagrid also raised a beast known as Buckbeak the Hippogriff. Buckbeak is a bird and pegasus hybrid that aided Harry Potter and his friends on their journey to Azkaban prison. Elsewhere, Hagrid tends to Thestrals, which are creatures that pull his wagon around and are invisible unless you have seen death, according to CBR. With all the creatures Hagrid kept around, it's also no surprise that he taught a course about caring for magical animals at Hogwarts.
For Hogwarts students who are third year and above, there is a course titled "Care of Magical Creatures." This class teaches students how to care for these magical beasts, as well as the life cycle of each species. In "Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban," Hagrid becomes the teacher of the course, replacing Professor Kettleburn. However, even though Hagrid was well-known for his care for animals, there was one particular animal that he did not befriend — cats!
Hagrid is allergic to cats
Readers learn that Rubeus Hagrid doesn't like cats in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," the first installment of the Harry Potter series. In it, Harry discovers on his 11th birthday that he is actually a wizard and no longer has to live under the cruelty of his aunt and uncle. Hagrid saves Harry and brings him to the Wizarding World, where Harry then attends Hogwarts University and eventually learns the secrets of his parents and the evil Lord Voldemort, who looks to destroy the ministry of wizards and subjugate all wizards and muggles to his reign.
However, within the plot, Hagrid tells Harry that he is not a fan of cats because he is allergic to them, and they make him sneeze. This is actually the reason why Hagrid decides to provide Harry with an owl instead of a simple animal like a cat. The author of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, also said that Hagrid doesn't befriend cats for this reason, according to Wizarding World.
